In my county, when a property is sold, a satellite image is taken of the property via Google Maps. The idea is to document the land in the event of future construction made without a building permit, and to verify property taxes. My property was photographed shortly after purchase. The resolution is such that I can pick out the side mirror on my truck and count individual potato plants. I can count the fence posts (fences are taxed).

I can only hope my county never has the budget for something like that. we're mostly a bunch of small government types (never mind that enrollment in welfare programs is near the top for the state) who never met a tax we didn't try to abolish, so I think I'm safe for the time being. if they ask, though, that big hole is a sandbox for my young cousin. and so is that other big hole.
funny, son did a google earth search for our property last month and he has had his house next door to ours for about 7 years..and the google earth photo didn't have it there, but you could see where we had cut down some of the trees for the clearing of the foundation area..talk about old photos...I'm not so worried about being spied on..besides if you have enough trees in your FOOD FOREST they can't see the veggies anyway
there's a township here that uses google-earth to find non-permitted swimming pools and other things (decks and sheds i think)
they always say it's about "safety" ..building code here is used as a huge revenue stream for towns...
We all know it’s not about safety, it’s about control. They need to remind all of us we really don’t own anything. The City’s States and Government can come in take and demand silly safety codes all they want. We all know it about control and the god almighty dollar $$$$$

Not in the USA. They actually need a warrant to enter your property. We do actually have rights which we need to stand up for and not just let people "come in and demand" because they are in "authority." If one accedes to that kind of "authority" one ends up living in an authoritarian system. No thanks. If you don't stand up for your rights you will end up not having any.
