I would suggest possibly gathering s group of very trusted people to invest in land together. Maybe 10 k is enough to get a little land of your own, but worki together with others can get you a better location and more space to grow metaphorically and literally. Im in a similar situation, got a lump sum of unemployment money and not quite sure. Investing with others is what I dream of but haven't found any ideal community yet. On the search...

Do you have any debt?  My first inclination is to live debt free.  Pay down any debt you might have and determine to never borrow again.

My second inclination is to donate the first 10% to a church or cause that you believe in, save at least 10% (an Index fund), and then enjoy the rest of that money one something that is life-giving and a good for you.
