Hi, I am reaching out to see if anyone knows where to get some sea buckthorn in northern michigan for a fair price. I am finally moving foward with my food forest interplanted with apples, nuts, plums, apricots, leaches and hopefully honey locust and preferably sea buckthorn!. Having a hard time finding any sea buckthorn at all really.

Have you looked at your local county conservation office? Ours (in SD) offers a large variety of species both native and non-native that grow well in our zone. So grateful someone pointed me to that invaluable resource. Most have websites at this time.

Here’s where you can buy seeds but they’ll likely be a wild variety meaning more thorns smaller fruit and more hassle. Another option would be to wait until someone like sean from edible acres on YouTube start their sales and pick up some saplings for a relatively good price but supplies are limited since its a small family run nursery.

Hope this helped.

I have about 500 unsexed seabuckthorn seedlings in my nursery inventory, $5 each. https://mountaintimefarm.com/products/seaberry-seedlings

The weather here (Missoula, MT) has been super warm this week and the ground has thawed back out, so although it says on my site that winter orders will ship April/May 2022, if you put in an order the next few days, I will be able to ship the order out this coming week.

Parentage unknown, they are grown from seeds I purchased.

I do have some silver buffalo berry seedlings (very similar plant), grown from known parents that were/are massively productive.

Ok I got those dug this morning and put 'em in the mail today.

I had to send them via USPS priority mail instead of UPS (the UPS store was unexpectedly closed due to staffing shortage!), and I sent you the tracking number via website.

Let me know if you have any issues with them and I would be happy to send you some replacements if they don't work out.

I've picked up a few here and there since then, but I started with stock ordered here: https://honeyberryusa.com/honeyberry-plants-4.html#seaberry . One of the four didn't make it, but I was neglecting them pretty hard the first year.

I just ordered 5 for my site in the UP Michigan! Thanks so much for offering these and at such a reasonable price, I'm so excited to have found some at all.

Thanks for ordering! The seaberry seedlings made it through the winter here quite nicely. I will be getting orders shipped in the next few weeks, and I'll send you a notification and tracking number when the time comes.

So, this will be my first time having a sea buckthorn, when and how will I be able to tell which are males and females?

Sary,
This video does a good job of helping you see the difference between male and female during dormancy.

Happy growing,
Nick
