My rude gesture

If owner hopes for world domination, he is going to need all the apples he can get. Limiting your apples to a "chosen few" means the "chosen few" will have to work that much harder for the domination coordinator. Besides, this new tactic is not very nice. Everybody should get an apple dammit!

I would give you an apple for that post alone.

I don't even know what the apples mean! But I agree with Mark you deserve an apple for your post.

I know I have given apples where I saw somebody ask a question and then somebody put together a really good answer - apple. This is the primary function of the apple stuff.

I asked adrien to make sure that each of the 94 got ten apples.

One of the staff was confronted with an awkward problems and came up with a good and decent creative solution - apple.

Tyler Ludens is really good at hitting that "report to moderator" button when things look iffy. This saves us gobs of time and helps to keep the site smooth - ounce of prevention and all that. I forked over some apples for that.

Somebody posted something in MD that gave me a big laugh - apple.

I know that some folks have been helping adrien with book pages, and podcast descriptions, so he's been giving out a lot of apples to those folks.

I have asked for a couple of extra features with the apples:

1: a simpler apple image that might blend with our look and feel better

2: when there is an apple given for a good post, and apple appears next tot the thumbs up.

3: when an apple is taken away for a post, an apple core shows.

The apples feature is something I've been asking for for years. I'm excited that it now exists. So far it seems to be working well (both programatically and for the community).

I think when the time comes to tap new stewards, the thing to do it look to the people with the most apples.

I think the staff is set pretty well to not give out an apple just because somebody asks for one. Or, more precisely, to definitely not give an apple when asked or commanded.

I have read many posts from people that deserve an apple, yet they don't have one.

I suppose, its better than paying in dollars... Nice website, good information, chincy apple hoarding.

It seems like you need to start your own web site so you can have your own apple policy.

It would also seem that your standards for handing out apples are different from mine. And from that of the staff. Therefore, my site will grow in a different direction than a site that you manage.

So I give away more free information about permaculture than all other permaculture people combined, and you see that I am excluding people.

I think what we have here is something a little goofy and a little fun. You cannot eat these apples. These apples have no monetary value. They are nothing more than a silly little "thank you" card with no words.

And you see this as excluding people.

I don't understand the connection there. But I respect that many people think in a way that is different than the way I think.

I think the apple thing will become less awkward as time goes on. People that consistently post good information will get noticed and get tons of apples. We don't have the workforce to go back and give apples for all the good post that were posted since Permies was created.

Personally, I prefer peaches,,, makes the web pages sticky and lickable.

Seriously though, I just don't feel it excludes anyone in any way, as we may all participate in any of the conversation and free exchange of information and experiences, if we choose to. (with respect to everyone's perfection of course lol) It amounts to no more than a convenient electronic thank you bank. How can we hold it against anyone for thanking someone else, ESPECIALLY when they are helping out in noticeable ways that eases the workload? That exchange does not hinder anyone's access to the information, nor limit their participation. Perhaps it is not the conversation, or exchange of information that someone may feel excluded from. Reputation systems have been every forum I've ever participated in and on those I've managed.

There always seemed to be folks that fixated on the rep system. lol

Is there a finite number of apples?

If people have the ability to print apples unbacked by any comoddity then the apple pool will expand causing apple inflation and a decrease in the value of an apple.

I think after a certain amount of apples have been collected they should be exchanged for cider. This would correct the apple pool and maintain the value of an apple.
