Can anyone recommend a source for wool coating, 18-25 ounces per yard? Pendleton sells it for $60 per yard, and I would either like to pay less, without importing from Europe, or buy from the west coast from a smaller producer. Planning to make childrens' coats.

If you happen to be in the Portland, OR area you could check out the Pendleton Woolen Mill Store in Milwaukie. You can get seconds (which is still very high quality) for as little as $6/yard for 100% wool.

I would check out thrift stores for wool coats that could be remade into children's coats. Both men's and women's coats would be good candidates for resizing.

Please post pictures in the sewing forum if you do this - my kids loved the coats I sewed for them as they were more practical for our climate and designed to work. One of those coats went through both my boys and a 3rd boy who wore it until it was the arm version of "flood pants".
