We have a new flower that sprung up this year,

Yellow evening primrose, or Oenothera flava, has brilliant cup-shaped flowers that resemble dandelions. The lemon-scented blooms open in the evening and close by noon the next day.





I did not know that there are six blooming plants that open at night:

Plants that bloom at night are often highly scented to attract night flying moths. That can add a nice feature in you garden if your climate allows.

Other gourds bloom at night too.
Cleome or spider flower blooms at dusk and the color is most vivid at the time. It's a heavy bloomer with a long season and self seed readily. I have a little patch coming back every year and attracting hummingbird moths at night.

Zone 6, 45 inches precipitation, hard clay soil

I'm growing night stocks for the first time this year.

It got me thinking about designing an insomnia garden,  as I often spend time in the garden on summer nights when I cannot sleep.
