I have too many peach trees. First i wanted them and now i want some dead. They're in the wrong place and can serve as a bean rack. Saves me time. building racks...So, half a year ago i ringed one....But it couldn't care less. It has leaves and fruit and all.
I have ringed another one, just now....
Why won't it die!???!

The tree is dead, it just doesn't know it yet :)  I've had trees do that too.  The spring after I ringed them, they leafed out and looked like they were fine.  They died shortly after.  I have no idea where they store the energy to leaf out after being ringed like that, but I have seen it too.

peach tree borers do that job for me here!
I wish I had your problem 🙃

I have three dead ones serving as potential scaffolding in place for some viney something this summer.
I'd rather have the peaches though.

It's curious why girdling the tree is not killing it...maybe not into the cadmiumcambium layer enough?

girdling trees keeps them from storing more energy in their roots, but it can still take a while for them to use up the energy they already have stored. i’m sure the time it takes varies by species somewhat. i girdled a big tulip poplar at my place and it took 4 years for it to die.

Greg Mosser, it died and i've strategically decided to make some more beanracks for season 2026.
Coming back from Christmas family visit i noticed that something really liked that dead bark!

I ringed the one in the front in spring, so it could make way for the pear trees i planted , it kept it's foliage through the driest year in 50 years and hottest summer ever here. These trees are so incredibly adapted to not losing water it's outrageous. No shriveling, no brown, just a tat more yellow than the one a bit further on...

Incredible that it held foliage through that. There's something almost admirable about a tree that refuses to die even when you're actively trying to kill it. At least it's making itself useful as a bean rack in the end.

i agree. It has been handy anyway as a wind blocking, shade providing, soil building, food machine. It turned out many fruits and pits for offspring. I took them to Croatia for a seed convention and many of my peach population grow there now and some in Germany and other places in France. They have served as gifts when i visited projects. It's crazy popping up with a shovel and a peach tree asking where can i plant this during a festival, but people appreciate the effort and i heard they were happy with the fruit a few year later.
