Hi there! I'm new to this wonderful community and loving every minute of it. I am wondering if there are other Canadians amid the members and curious to hear about you, your dreams and your plans. I'll start. My name is Carter-James and my dream is to create a beautiful community that focuses on vegan, organic permaculture to grow our own food and ensure food security, while providing communal spaces to nourish a sense of community and support. The last few years, I've come to learn that I need more community and connection in my life, and I'm not alone. Many people I speak to echo my sentiments of feeling alone, struggling and uncertainty for the future. Thus the idea of finding/creating a community was born. My partner and I are the only people in our friend groups that is serious about leaving the urban lifestyle so we are looking to connect with other like-minded folks and are eager to learn more about existing permaculture farms, and intentional communities/villages that exist in Canada. We're currently living on the West Coast, but we're open to settling down out East too.

In all honesty, we don't fully know how things will unfold, but we are compelled to our future we've lovingly called our "Modern Hobbiton", or "Shire Vibes Community". Embodying the acceptance, simple, slow life of Hobbits is all we want. If this resonates with anyone, we'd love to hear from you

Consider checking out the communities directory at ic.org

Also hopefully some Canadians will see this and have some ideas for you.

I am interested in living just like that, but might not have looked at this and respond to it because it is about doing that in Canada. Maybe something close to what is desirable in some exceptional zone in Canada... But, I think of having as much as is possible growing for food, materials and anything medicinal, and I am sure not as much would be possible in Canada. So I look for things preferably south of Canada and not close to it. I would be more open to a place south of the US, but I am not as inclined to travel far for what I look for, if anything for it might be closer. Still it would be far from cities and involve the trip away from what city is anywhere near it. The place would be with individuals there who would be doing things to be independent enough, that I would join with, with little impact on environments.

I have been to Canada though never lived there, I don't know about "Modern Hobbiton", or "Shire Vibes Community", though I love the permies community.

Ask away at question and folks will respond.

Welcome to the forum!

I do wish many more people were trying something like this, with land they can get, there should be the way available to grow all the desirable and needed things, that those there would be willing to do.
