I'm looking for others to join me on a journey. If you have funds or not,  it doesn't matter. Join me financially or put forth your time and effort for the community which benefits you and all who share the land.  I want to do this now, not years from now. No time like the present. Let start living on land now being creative in the space. I am in North Idaho currently in Bonner County near the Montana Border I have 1.5 acres lets meet up. I have some funds and just need others to join me. If we join funds it is even better to find larger lands.
This dream needs others and can not be done alone.
We need free thinkers, builders, growers, healers, artists, musicians, etc. the list goes on. Land with springs and streams with south facing areas ideal. Off the grid is the goal, a self-reliant village. Alternative forms of energy production. Using our creative brilliant permaculture minds together is key to building a working running system that works. Home ideas, Yurts, geodesic domes, earth ships, Mike Oehler style underground houses. A definite need is underground year round greenhouses. For fun Natural swimming hole/pond. A requirement of the mind, Living far outside the box and being able to dream big and really believe in that dream, even when people say it can't be done you do it anyway.
The vision: A community area to include, Gardens, fire circle for voluntary social gatherings, outdoor/indoor kitchen/community hall, Office/library internet area, kids community wild schooling/play area, community cob craft cottages ( palatable cob) Each one (built in a large circle) for a different work /craft space. Leather works, sewing, Jewelry repair/ making, wood works, painting, etc. For all to share and care for.
A back chunk of the property for privacy and private living spaces with enough room to relax and self reflect even a personal garden space.
A front part of the property with good road access to designate as public space for future plans of world domination( lol hehehe, just kidding, I couldn't resist) really for educational outreach, gatherings, events, healing retreats, etc.
I will say the plan needs to be able to flow and be flexible, "sometimes on the way to a dream we get lost and find a better one" ( quote by unknown Author). We never know Divine's plan for us, being open and flexible is a positive thing. Of course getting back to nature should be important and on the top of the list.  I am vegetarian, ( you don't need to be) I would love to have animal systems in the works. Chickens for eggs, milk share with goats and sheep, for dairy, cheeses and soap making possibly wool too. If villagers want to raise their own meat, that could be possible with humane permaculture principles and or ethical hunting practices.
My hope is to create and live in a village where all walks of life can co-exists. Have a conversation about our differences, our beliefs, ideas and be okay without anger, fear or judgement. With a bit of childlike curiosity you can see from a new perspective and still respectively disagree. If you can do that, come join us. Open Minded.
I am a wiccan priestess and nature and earth is the main reason for my spiritual path. I am very open about who I am and don't plan on hiding it. I would like to have events like Pagan pride and or full moon drum circles, etc. You are welcome to join in or stay out but just be open to them happening, because Freedom is of the utmost importance. I am open to all other paths. Can you be open to mine? There is no right or wrong when it comes to Spiritual truths in my opinion.  Freedom is key, no mask, no jab.  Are you able to see past the fear used to control us? Join me in healthy freedom of the mind and body.
We are all beautiful and unique pieces of this giant picture we call the Universe.  When it comes to all beliefs, spiritual, fiscal, political, mental, personal, etc. we, as those puzzle pieces, can create one amazing and unique picture (village) if we put all our different ideas in ,to work together for the greater good of all community members and the world around us.
Hopefully this resonates with a few of you out there. I look forward to hearing form you, so much more to discuss. Message me here or email me at opal.althoff@gmail.com Please put " Community Freedom Village" in the subject. I get so many emails I don't want to loose track.
Love, Light and Fireflies Beautiful souls
Opal
PS. Something I forgot to mention. No cigarettes, No drugs, on land at all. In your own private space you may partake in alcohol as long as it doesn't become a problem for yourself or other villagers. 420 is not recreationally legal in Idaho and would need to be discussed and agreed upon by village members in the future.

I do,  I do!

Kidding really,  but it sounds like an amazing opportunity. I lived in Sandpoint from the age of 9 to 24. Still have family there. What a gorgeous place to attempt a community.

LOL Loved "I do I do!" too funny. And Yes thank you Melonie, Sandpoint is a wonderful and gorgeous place. I'm technically out of the city towards the Montana border less than an hour drive to Sandpoint for supplies. :-)

Sanctuary is what I have in mind. That word needs to be in the name of the village some day. Lotus Blossom Sanctuary sounds beautiful to me.
Emily lets talk soon.
I have your email and we have our numbers now.
I have one lady Martha Joining us on the land this coming week.
I am in talks with Sage, and Tess as well. So exciting.

I also wanted to add to the original post...........
Future plans, once the living situation is settled for village people (lol)
I love energy work and have been guided by Angels and my guides to build and begin a healing retreat center where healers and teachers of all types come together and help heal the mind body soul. With reiki, sound, Chakras, etc. For the body, yoga and classes to teach eating well and growing organic food. For the mind mediations, crafting and art. Where people can come from all over to take part, on a sliding scale fee nothing just for the wealthy, sometimes in trade with help around community. Getting back to nature and a sanctuary of healing. With maybe some Geodesic domes for clients to stay in.
I would like the village of the living spaces to be separate from public space so we have our privacy of course. Community members living and working together to bring healing to this earth and its people.
I also want to have a public/local/village market space to sell and trade our creations, goods, foods etc.
Join Me, lets build something amazing!

Its a beautiful rainy day here today at my 1.5 acre forest. The thunder is in abundance but the rain is too, gladly helping the firefighters out in Idaho/Montana! And the wonderful rain helping the plants grow. Hope to have some villagers join us soon.

Tell me about Idaho...  climate,  growing season, winter weather...     I know nothing about that area.

Is it off grid or tiny home friendly?    How much land/space were you imagining per person especially, and total shared space?

My work skills travel well and I'm pretty minimal.   In MA now,  but considering and exploring all my long-term living arrangement possibilities!

It would be ideal for my plan for 8 families/ private properties to find 30- 50 plus acres, its all flexible but I was picturing and drew out a design for a village, 5 acres public site for education in front by a road, 5 acres common land for community in the center, 14 acres for private spaces at 2 acres each, with 1 acre in between each for grazing and or growing food/food forest for the village members.
Off grid, tiny home friendly yes. In the future about 2-5 acres per dwelling to be decided by village/community members depending on need and over all size of land we find.
We are in zone 3 for growing. Season shorter but can be extended with green houses. Plus I want to build a village underground year round greenhouse Mike Oehler design or alike.  https://www.bestplaces.net/climate/city/idaho/clark_fork. Nearest little town and Sandpoint Id is the biggest nearest town. Small town, simple life.
Beautiful mountains unlike how flat MA is. :-)

Back in this past Sep 2022. I received and email from an interested person about this post. Good questions were asked, that I thought would be perfect to share. I will not be sharing any names or personal information.
There inquiry is in quotes as a "Q" for question and I put my answer in "A"

Q: "anarchist,  sustainable, back to the land, non profit, anti extortionistic,  equal opportunity, resource based, simple living in a troubled world, type of thang.".

A: I don't quite have all the terms you might be looking for, I don't subscribe to all the technical labels One exception, Agorist like comes to mind. I just know the feeling of what I envision for everyone but know that it is flexible depending on the like minded people who join together, there has to be room for growth and change, nothing is rigid and set in stone.

Q: "The only piece I balked at, was your preference to control personal choice of substance ingestion. Ie; tobacco, drugs. While allowing personal food freedoms, and the well documented troubles of alcohol. This makes no sense to me. I'm wondering if you consider naturally occurring organisms such as pysicibin fungi's, cannabis/ tobacco plants or DMT which exist all thru out the plant world, and even inside our own little lizard brains, And is usually activated by tramatic and or extatatic events to be " drugs"  This will need some splainin Lucy."

A: In an ideal community I would love to have it a Sober zone. I can literally feel vibrations and I know that in order to be pure evolved light bringers to this world your vessel needs to be clean and substances even plant based have a very low vibration when ingested. They are there when we need them in a certain state of mind and level of vibration. But when you spiritually get to a certain point you realize the use of Ayahuasca, and other labeled " spiritual" drugs are just bringing you down because you are beyond that vibration and no longer need their assistance, those are the evolved beings I hope to attract or at least ones who understand that. There are ways to get to those certain places without plant drug assistant, its just more work. When you get to a certain place you can see and be in that state regularly while sober. I said alcohol allowed in my post because legally in the USA it's allowed, even though I think it's the worst poison of all, I don't drink myself and I would love to say no alcohol but then you really limit the people that would be allowed to live within. Some people can drink it mild and ceremonially and be ok. Cigarettes are gross and pollute our bodies and the planet. Any smoke you put in your lungs is bad for the body, in my opinion but I am open to some discussion on mary jane. There are plenty of places that offer "spiritual" work by way of substances in ceremony but this will not be one of those. I yearly go to and event and would like to hold my own alchemical Fire circle completely transformative like the Phoenix from the ashes and WOW amazing natural high surrounded in LOVE, it is a completely sober event, I know from personal experience It can be done. I would hope in the community we would evolve together beyond needing any substances. When you feel so good you don't need that shit. I am a bit biased coming from a long line of addicts and having the energetic sensitivities I have, but I believe it is possible to live a clean and high vibe life. We are all here to grow. Spiritual beings having a human experience.

Q: "I'm also a big advocate of paying my own way. In my experience of living on this planet at this time...
Ya gotta pay to stay.  While I'd love to pay the property tax man in tomatoes or other assorted fruits of my labor... He accepts nothin but AFC ( actual fuckin cash). Oh I certainly resent and disagree with this fact, tho fact it is. Though I would love my 30% ish discount, to offset my 30%ish pay discrepancy due to being born female. C'est la vie.   Would love to build a whole new world... Meanwhile... Working on a building."

A: While I see the reality of living in a monetary world and I would like the community to be outside of that, I know we still need to pay the tax man. So that is why I thought of having a small village business to make that cash when we need to pay the man and or buy the tools, materials we need. My current property is off a scenic highway and would be perfect for a seasonal market of food and wares we could offer to tourists passing through as well as a farm stand for locals etc. But inside our village it would be nice to trade and share. And get away from the bullshit US dime. If we pay in the village then we are hooked into the system and mindset of being stuck in the rat race of paying the "landlord" for our space. I think each family and villager would benefit from a close knit system where the work we put in is for the good of all and we are more invested in the community and its land, instead of working in the city to pay bills, It's so impersonal. We are all programmed in our youth to believe in a monetary way from birth to "pay our way", Can you do that with your time and effort, with your skills and put it into the community? When the systems are in place we don't need people's money, we will need the effort and time to keep everything running. Building, making, growing, cooking, fermenting, food preservation, etc. Lots to do without time for the city BS. We can live a simple but beautiful life much like our ancestors of old did with a few modern twist

Q: " I am determined to realize the dream. "

A: I think that is awesome, me too!

I hope this helps anyone else who may have similar questions.

Another set of questions I like to share.

Q: " Seems a bit contradictory/ counterintuitive to me. I'm a grown ass human, quite capable of making my own decisions. Healthy for me or not.  ( Personally I've not imbibed on a psycotropic journey in near two decades, nor do I feel the need for one in my near future. Just don't appreciate the choice being taken away)"

A: It's okay to blur the lines, In my world there is no "contradiction" Nothing is as it seems nor black and white. Just because I say Freedom and choice to live free, that doesn't mean the community can't be a sober zone. My life is a walking contradiction. lol. I am a vegetarian who owns guns, I am a republican conservative witch who protects the environment, I am awake but not woke. I could go on. I am a Divine rebel and this journey in the universe for me and everyone is bigger than our human labels we put on things. But having said all that in a deeper sense, it is more than a word in our earthly vocabulary. It is a feeling I know and trust, we all have it if we listen, it can be hard to hear because of all the noise out there, but it is inside screaming out to you. I don't eat a soul and I protect my sovereign body and land because it is my right. While I dream of a world where humans protect animals and not eat them, People can hunt it they want to, it is really none of my business. Our souls are bigger than politics but if I had to pick one....... I know the one world ass holes are taking everything good, like a plant based diet and protecting the earth and twisting and corrupting it to chill out the masses, when they lift their heads from their phones a min to notice the crap around them. It is all perverted to their advantage. Let's keep it grassroots.
I got a little side tracked........ Back to the second half " Just don't appreciate the choice being taken away)" First off, that honestly came off as childish to me, but No one is taking your choices away, you have the choice to live in that type of community or not. I am being honest from the beginning about what kind of community I wish to grow. You still have your choice, just saying that is what the community will be, take it or leave it. I have met so many hippy permies that smoke, drink and trip, and they are cool people, but I honestly don't want to live in community with them. People who don't get it, it's fine, they are not ready yet and there are plenty of options with more "freedom" as you say out there.
I am looking for a soul tribe that gets it.
I am looking to create ( with others) something new and amazing. Remember the part in my Permies post about, you must see outside the box and dream big.? There is so much to it.........I should have said you must be willing to blow up the box. lol
We don't fit into the "mold" because we came here to Break the "mold".
Love and light.

I ranted a bit but many of the other questions from this person, I did not post here, they seemed very obstinate and a bit misunderstood. So after many emails I just finally said the above, feeling I needed to lay it all out there and be brutally honest. This person did not ever respond. And I wanted to share my answer /point of view with all interested.

I love this thread.  I'm interested in this project and would love to learn more.  I'm currently based in Ashland, Oregon but am looking at relocation with the right opportunity.  At this point, I want to be in a place that has both potential and movement toward a vision of permaculture, resilient design, and ideally the resident can have vested interest.  I like the thought of Community Land Trusts, Limited Equity Coops, and Cohousing along those lines.  My email is Hugmachine45@gmail.com.

I am curious about your project and am certainly hungry for connecting with like minded individuals. I tried to start a community a while back but it dissolved, and life has felt too unstable to pursue it in the manner that I was before. I no longer am sure what the right path will be for us, and am attempting to remain open while trying to get through this current transition. I now have to sell the 10 acres I had, to pay off a mortgage so I can afford to be a single mom and still homeschool my 5 children. I do live very near to you however and would love to meet up sometime.

I do have some personal differences from you which may affect things but probably not overly so if we are both open minded. (I myself am not vaccinated for that virus, but really don't care if other people are, for example. Along the lines of medical privacy, it's none of my business if others got it, and it seems like life has enough drama as it is without worry about that. 😂😅 )
I am interested in earth based spiritual practices. I lean more toward being an omnist (there is a bit of truth in all religions). I do feel pulled to celebrate nature and the moons, solstices, etc, but our methods are simple and still sort of undefined. I would like to do more.
I am not particularly republican these days but then I honestly think the whole political system is a sad show that distracts us from doing what matters. I do wish we protected our environment better. All the rest seems meaningless if we cannot correct that one glaring flaw, in my opinion. So, I lean toward the political party that claims to care about that protection.
I am not inclined toward substance use, though occasionally have a social drink, depending on who I am with. Mostly my (ex)sister in law at this time. I feel like I don't know enough about that lifestyle to cast judgement on it, but I do see what you mean about how it can lower people's energy and I don't personally desire to experience this existence through a substance/filter. I want to enjoy it just as it is. I have been curious about reducing my anxiety and excessive inhibitions but not sure that is the right course of action and would never want to make a lifestyle  of it.

It sounds like you know pretty well what you want in a community. I still suggest reading "Creating a Life Together" by the... oh I think it was something like Diane Leif Christian. I am getting part of her name wrong haha I am sure of it, but a Google search will get you there. That is a pretty good guide to help with the matter and I suggest reading it before you get the plan started because the foundations for the plan will be affected. It also outlines vision-building for the community and how to make it more inviting and inclusive for everyone involved. I highly recommend it.

Hi Alicia, Nice to hear from you. Yes, i know the book you mentioned and I have the book. "Creating a life together" Thanks for the idea though.

"I do have some personal differences from you which may affect things but probably not overly so if we are both open minded". We should really talk sometime soon. I like what you wrote, I actually think we have a lot in common. Plus people's differences is what makes the world work so well, in my opinion.

Update.
I have moved an hour from the 1.5 acre property. Bought 15 acres with a creek and lots of trees. Beautiful place with wonderful neighbors at the end of a dead end country road. Top of the mountain. 3,000 feet elevation near Priest River Idaho. Would love to have others join. Build a earth friendly home here on the land. collect rain water and solar /off grid etc.

I am interested in earth based spiritual practices. I lean more toward being an omnist (there is a bit of truth in all religions). I do feel pulled to celebrate nature and the moons, solstices, etc, but our methods are simple and still sort of undefined. I would like to do more.

I have been curious about reducing my anxiety and excessive inhibitions but not sure that is the right course of action and would never want to make a lifestyle  of it.

Hi Alicia, I picked out these things from your post to comment on.

We should meet up sometime soon. I homeschool fulltime as well, we should get the kids together, email me and I can get you my number and or video chat opal.althoff@gmail.com

We can definitely do more spiritual practices.,...... I loved holding ritual and celebrating our mother earth.

Reducing anxiety can be helped with CBD oil/extract, non psychoactive, no high just calmer less anxiety, I have heard. I know lots of people who It works well for that. I use it for PMS myself.
Hope to speak soon.

Yurts etc, simple living at its best connect with nature and like minded friends

Spring will be here before we know it, who wants to join? Email me opal.althoff@gmail.com. Then lets meet on Zoom or Skype

Loving it here at the new land. We could not do another winter in a camper so we gave in and shopped for a home we bought this 15 acre land with a berm house on it in Oct 2022. It has the potential to be a great community land, we are settling in nicely and would love for the right people to join us. The 15 acres is amazing, lots of forest and backs up to 100 of acres of private logging which was logged around 5 years ago. Frogs croaking at night in the creek, quite peaceful days that " smell like a campground" says my daughter. We love it here and can't wait for our new community family to join us soon.

I love this and am looking to join or create a community to live together off grid preferably not owned by a male and for sure not male dominated. My only reservation is the current politics in Idaho.

Update 6/24/23
Planted 8 apple trees with 2 left to go. Have a compost bin set up. Thanks to the help of some hard working friends. Some thoughts on my mind as of late, for city dwellers dreaming of off grid life, it is not easy, it is hard at times but rewarding. You will work new muscles and must have the will to push through those times. I would love people to join us who are hard working and have great attitudes especially when things get hard for you. Great communicators who take positive re-direction, and speak up if something is bothering them. Healthy well adjusted individuals wanted. Sometimes life has conflicts, how do you handle it? Have a meeting/ discussion with the parties involved? Talk about it and figure it out? Or come from denial of wrong doings, feel attacked and or sweep it under the rug and hope it goes away? I have been reading to re-familiarize myself with my community building books. No one is perfect, I know this, but seeing our flaws through our reflection of those around us is okay, very healthy and great way to work on self and grow as a human. I have learned so mush from our recent visitors and thank the gods for the many lessons and growth through love and challenges.
Lets text, talk, and video.
A 90 day trial for anyone new to come in. Let all try each other out and see how we flow together? In those minimum 90 days both parties have the right to say goodbye peacefully with love and respect. Please come with everything you need to be self sufficient we are at least 30 min from town sometimes 45-1 hour depending on weather and road conditions.
I can't wait to mulch the roof of the berms and get ready for planting and growing of food.
Would love to be at 75-90% food production in the future.
More nut and fruit trees to be bought and planted, would love some help.

Hey Opal! I live in Montana with my daughter and partner, we are interested in helping maybe just to get ideas or stay for a little bit? I could come over for a week and help with the usual fall stuff, and I could bring you some plants too.  We are looking for a new place but we are in a safe place so don't need to rush into anything. I have been searching up and down for someone who is on the same page, here is my email as well tnunlist@gmail.com I'm excited to hear what you are doing there !

Opal-Lia Palmer wrote:I'm looking for others to join me on a journey.

Um did you read my journal and just describe my dream or what ?! Haha I emailed you !

Hi! Are you still looking for people to join in this community? My name is Peter. I can’t contribute financially but I’m hard-working and eager to learn and would like to contribute in every way. I am new to, but serious about, this lifestyle. I am looking to move in the next 1-2 months. I am interested in any information, such as what might be expected of me, what kind of living space is available, and what I would be advised to bring along. I would love any and all information. Feel free to reply to this post or e-mail me anytime, I will be quick to respond as time is, currently, of the essence. Thank you so much!
