Hello,

Received a notice from the staff (?) about the inability to contact me using my personal Hotmail account. (The initial notice did not appear as a "moosage", but rather as a screen that occured prior to my being able to access the Forum which then directed me to a Moosage with further information.)   I do recall some time back Paul W. mentioning a desire to see movement away from Hotmail accounts although I can't recall why.   I've double-checked and the address on file is correct.  Additionally, I don't see any contact attempt recently that were sent to my 'Junk' mail folder in Hotmail/Outlook.  I do not see a 'SPAM' folder separate from the 'Junk' folder so don't know where else attempted contact messages may have gone.  Ultimately, the message posted to me within Permies.com indicated that my account may be suspended if a correct email is not provided. Please advise at this point as I do not wish for that to happen.  Thanks!

Hotmail (and most email providers)  censor mail. This is several steps before a junk filter and most users never see it.  If they don't like something about the incoming  mail, they stop it before you ever see it.  Sometimes they send a message back to the sender, like in this case, claiming the email is defunct.

Hotmail and a few others had some trouble with this over the last few days.

Fun fact, about a year or two ago, google/gmail finally admitted this, burried in their terms of service, but market it as a feature to protect users from emails that might harm them or hurt googles reputation.

proton mail is the only email provider I've found that doesn't censor mail and trusts the user is smart enough to tell spam from real mail.

This is why I self-host my email, even though it's a pain at times.

I use my yahoo account for the routing off all potential junk mail...

I use my proton account  for only friends and those I trust...     It is my bat phone as I check it often...    Yahoo not so much.

Thanks for these responses.  I will try to see if I have an email account available with our ISP and will try to use that if possible.  Otherwise will seek out another email address solution.  Thanks!

I got a message like OP yesterday. Apparently I’m gonna lose access to my Permies account just because of Hotmail? Having to set up a new email account is rather inconvenient. Isn’t there anything else that can be done about the situation?

I got the same message and added the permies email address to my contact list in the hope that it goes through again. I don't know how I'll know if it has worked or not though...

I did the same....indicated that permies.com is a 'safe domain' and that permies@permies.com should be allowed through to Email.  At this point, I'm not seeing any notices coming through from Permies.com that I previously received:  Notices of people responding to, or liking a thread, and similar content.  I'm concerned that r ranson is correct about an action by Microsoft Hotmail/Outlook that is culling the incoming message even before it reaches a personalized filter.  The frustration is that it's been working fine since joining in 2014, so if Microsoft is doing this now, why?  Will continue to work on getting a new Email account but will check here for other's experiences as well.  Thanks for responses.

I'm not a huge Google booster*, but my gmail account hasn't ever had this problem (that I know of) and I get a lot of emails from Permies.

* I have decided to never again adopt one of their new services, actually, but I've had this gmail account for 23 years or something, so I guess I'm keeping it as long as they let me.

Have not received an email from permies for many days. Using a proton mail alias. I'm not complaining just an FYI.

Let me apologize in advance as I am not a 'techie' when it comes to IT but I want to let everyone know that there is some kind of issue in the background that is being worked on.

A conservative estimate is that in a couple of days we hope to have email-related issues resolved and Permies communications back to normal.

Thank you for your patience and your alerts to this!

Have you read the terms of service changes from last year or so?  They added a fun clause where they protect you from emails the deem to be harmful to the user or google.  It's nice that email providers are finally starting to admit to this publicly.

Status report,

There is hope on the horizon and they this is the top priority to fix.

Something changed about the first of November and a lot of big email senders are also not coming through (depending on stuff).  Amazon and temu both stopped for me for a few days.  Discord hasn't restarted,   my library too isn't coming through.  It's a global issue.

Again, anything you can do from your end to report to your email providers, maybe even talking to a real human or opening a ticket with their help bot.  Let them know you, a real human, want emails from permies@permies.com

Oh, protonmail has finally got themselves off the naughty list - they send emails to my main provider to tell me there are proton emails...it's silly, but I keep a lot on my main provider to be a canary as it is one of the most sensitive ones for this kind of censorship.

I got an email from permies to my proton alias saying they were bouncing back and clicked the link for instructions to fix it. Never got the instructions email.

I changed my email from the alias to regular proton.me email and now I get emails from permies again.

Protonmail is one of the few that doesn't censor protect users from mail.

But somehow mail sent from them got on the naughty list.

The whole system is flawed.

I believe we have mostly sorted out the existing issues with emails being able to be sent out appropriately.

Thank you all for your patience!

Got a purple moosage that my Hotmail address is bouncing email from Permies....except it's not bouncing all of it, I'm getting email from Permies daily.

Hotmail was down for a little while yesterday so maybe that's it?
Hotmail has been screwing up a lot lately so I am changing over to my domain email for everything.

Tried to switch to my domain email and it says another user already has that email???
Sure would like to know what's up with that.

Now what?

Dave, I don't speak computer but luckily enough I know the folks who do. I'm going to shake some trees and see if I can get an answer to why this is happening.

Thank you for your patience, this has been a bit of a headache to say the least.

Is it possible you created another account already with that email Dave? Maybe nearly 2 years ago?

Took a look in my domain email and the original purple moosage alerting me to this came in via dave@davebross.com.

Try logging out and then logging on using that email. I think permies will send you a login link to that email if neccessary?

We do get this problem a bit when people purchase something using a different email account (double trouble)

Just confirm here (using the other account) that you want it merged to your current account so we know they are both you!

My domain email forwards everything to my hotmail account. This is why I didn't pick up on this earlier.

Is that enough info to merge the accounts?

Logged out, signed back in using dave@bavebross.com, reset my password, and I seem to be locked out of all my info like past posts.

It does show my name in the upper right corner but when I try to access past posts it takes me to a page asking what posts I want to see but won't go beyond there when I choose "all"

I give up for now, I have to get back to what I was working on, please let me know if you can sort this for me.

That's enough to confirm they're both you - thanks! I'll go and press some buttons and combine Dave Bross II into Dave Bross. You should then be able to add the other email in if it doesn't come automatically.

Hi. I've got the same problem (Outlook.com). Last received e-mail was on Nov 26th. I've forgotten my password and have been using e-mail login links, which I no longer receive, even though permies@permies.com is already in my contact list, safe sender/domain list and safe mailing list. Right now I'm still logged into the forums, but it's only a matter of time before I get logged out (and locked out).

The issue is solved on my end, thank you. I could receive e-mails again, but I'm definitely migrating away from Outlook. I've changed my permies password and my e-mail to my Gmail account for now while I look for a better e-mail host.
