Coastal Cafe and Bakery is hiring for a part-time, moving to full-time position. Work duties include Dishes, prep cooking, sandwich making and whatever else needs doing. We are small, but very busy, everything is made from scratch and fresh daily. An ideal candidate would have previous food service
experience in a scratch kitchen/bakery. As we are expanding to wholesale baked goods, we are looking for someone to be able to run a limited breakfast line during off-peak times, and take some of the pressure of the owners. We are quickly growing and interested in putting someone into a position to grow with us. We are trying to "meet people where they're at" with regard to
local, seasonal, from-scratch eating in a friendly, no-pressure atmosphere. Many people, especially older people and those not already involved in 'the movement' find local/organic eating to be challenging in one of many ways - price, availability, creativity, etc. We aim to bridge that gap and show people how easy (and delicious!) local seasonal food can be. We work constantly to minimize our waste stream, from composting all kitchen & table scraps in partnership with a local farm, recycling, and offering up our used wax paper (required by the health department) as free fire-starting materials to the many members of our community who heat with
wood. We're not 100% local, 100% organic, or 100% anything except delicious.
There are a lot of other business opportunities in this wonderful walkable seaside town, and "greenie" sorts of people are practically a majority demographic here...if the cafe isn't your thing, but you're looking for someplace to put down
deep roots, send me a mooseage and I can let you know some of what I've observed as real needs in the community here that would also provide a living for a frugal sort of permie-person. Restaurant composting service is one big one, another is an herbalist/apothecary/tea shop (and there's a space for rent across from the cafe that is so perfect, I'd do it if there were only three of me!!) and several others have come to mind or been suggested by local folks here.
Land is dirt cheap (actually, cheaper than good garden dirt...) and the town is aging rapidly and desperately grateful for young, energetic people revitalizing the region.
