I agree, it does look like monotropa uniflora. Very interesting parasitic plant, related to blueberries. Some people around here call them Indian pipes, some call them ghost flowers. They are powerful medicine and a little toxic.

I've totally mistaken Indian pipe with a fungi before. The pictures blurry, but I can't think what else it could be. Grows in my region too.
