Blade repair...where to begin?

Hi guys, and merry Christmas!

I have returned, and resumed filing.

To my GREAT joy, after some time the scythe began straightening up, and quickly reached a point where it is almost straight.

I can't believe it, this is AMAZING.

I am incredibly grateful for your help.

There still remains a very slight warp. You might be able to spot it on the pictures. It doesn't seem to have improved with my latest filing attempts.

What do you reckon I should do? Leave it as is, to avoid shrinking the scythe too much, or causing damage? Keep filing until it's perfectly straight again? Use a mallet to straighten it?

Thank you again VERY MUCH for the help. I am super happy already, because I am confident that I'll be able to use that scythe again.

I just wanted to touch base with you, to know whether any of you had an idea of whether I should stop filing now, keep filing until it's completely straight, straighten it with a mallet, or leave it in peace?

I would like to make sure my update has not gone unnoticed.

Your repair looks really good to me but I'm not the expert

What an amazing thread, great handiwork on that repair Judith, I would say VC did pretty well also, I'm a bit careless with my tools at times but I'd probably give it a test run and see how it cuts myself

Unbelievable good outcome on this.
I had a similar problem, although not with a mower. I was scything and hit a T-post laying flat in the grass that I forgot was dumped there from a previous project. Took a chunk out. Was able to peen it back flat but still a little chunk out of it.

It's been a very long time, but I thought I'd give you an update on my scythe, which had previously been declared unusable.

After my last filing, I filed a bevel on the portion that had been dulled, and used it.

It works perfectly.

So a huge thanks for the help I received here, I learned a lot and it saved my scythe.

Right now I am moving forward with a second repair of it.

I don't know whether you noticed on the pictures, but elsewhere on the blade there was a pretty big tear.

I just filed a huge length of the blade away, to remove the tear, and I'll peen a bevel back into it afterwards, from scratch.

I'll share it with you once it's done.
