I've manufactured some simple drain cleaners. I've seen something like this before, at a hardware store,  so it's not something I'm going to be able to patent or sell.

 Works great. The thin profile fits much better than the bent coat hangers that I used to use.

They are made from an old, flexible vinyl cutting board.Takes about three minutes to manufacture one, using scissors.

The handle prevents it from being lost down the drain.

Aw, shucks, our drain cleaning adventures usually involve a 15-foot piece of rebar being rammed up from the outlet. From the thread title, I was hoping this would somehow magically become long!

PS ...vinyl cutting board? What's that? I haven't seen it, and the very name sounds like it's more suited to clearing drains than to cutting food!

Plastic cutting boards are very common in North America.  I think they are best turned into other things.

 I cleaned nine different drains yesterday,  in four homes of friends and relatives.

 I was given another worn out cutting board, so I have more raw material now than when I started.

These things have been working well for more than a year. A while back, my daughter called and said that she needed her bathroom drain cleaned. I told her to use the device, and she told me she threw it out because she thought it would never be needed. She's keeping the new one.

I have shown my devices to members of the police and Border Patrol. Everybody had a chuckle as we figured out other ways that it might be used.

I have also used Rebecca's method of cleaning hands with oil. My favorite is coconut oil. This works well with many paints, caulking and other difficult to remove stuff. I wipe most of it off with a paper towel, in order to avoid washing a lot of oil down the drain.
