K, for anyone interested there are tons of free PDFs to download at
Fiddle Fork. Lots of old timey Irish reels and stuff. But other things too. I can stand in front of the computer for hours and never play the same song twice if I don't want to. So, I've accomplished my goal of playing more! And I'm loosening up while getting my former chops back. It's awesome. I love the internet because I'm loving my violin again.
Ludi, my violin was my great-grandmothers! Old instruments sound the best.
It's difficult to learn any instrument as an adult, and this is why I think that's the case: We want to be really good right away, and unfortunately you have to go thru a long phase of sounding like you're a six year old learning to play an instrument. Six year old ears can handle that, adult ears sometimes can't deal long
enough to get beyond the kinda-boring and not-very-pretty-sounding super-beginner stage. And then if the instrument in question is a pretty technical one, like the violin......glad I started learning when I was 11. It all comes back quickly when I play for three days in a row, but when I pick it up after a long pause I have to practice a lot of self-forgiveness or I immediately put it back in the case.
