Upcycling clothes!

Our dogs needed new winter jackets, the puppy has outgrown both his original puppy coats, so took apart a quilted men's jacket that had some loose stitching that was a bargain buy from a thrift shop.

The puppy got two jackets from the sleeves that were unpicked along the seam up to within an inch of the cuff and unpicked under the press studs so that it could slip over his head.

Used two inner pockets for the flap under his belly and buttons from my stash to fasten the flap.

Cut up one of the front panels as the belly flap for our older dog's jacket, opened up the seam on either side of the collar, extended the length and stitched the shoulder seam into the collar keeping the original press stud closures.

They both look rather smart in their matching jackets and keeps them cosy and warm.

I have checked to see the pattern - I downloaded it in 2016 and it looks like it is no longer available. It was a freebook by a German mom-designer.

Anita, I cannot thank you enough; these are great. I even understand the directions (I'm a novice sewer) .  
Just one question if I may.  To make these a bigger size,  would I just enlarge the pattern pieces equally all around? Or would width-wise and height-wise measurements have a different ratio?

I had leftover yarn from a project,
And I was trying to learn how to crochet.
I ended up knitting and crocheting
(Add-lib) a sweater for my dog.

One of my fondest memories is when I was a young girl about 12 years old, in the summer time my mother would have us pick out some sort of garmet to sew during the summer.  She would sit with me and show me how to make a pattern out of newspaper and how to sew my garment.  I learned how to make tops and an apron and some shorts like that.  I wore the items I had made with pride.  That is a memory of time spent with my mom.  I would love to do that just one more summer.

Refurbish is my middle name! Or is it repurpose?  Anyhoo, there have been a couple of times when I’ve led children’s tie dye projects.  That dye, once mixed up, is only good for 24 hrs. Can’t waste that! I had a big stash of yellow napkins with lots of stains. They got transformed into amazing explosions of color. Very much improved.  Boring beige silk top and linen blouse turned one of a kind mauve and gifted to my niece who treasures them. I’ve repaired moth holes in my wool long undies by felting polka dots in each hole. My kids laugh at me when I wear that shirt so that’s fun too. I’ve repaired tears in silk blouses with simple embroidery.
Lastly, I had a pair of worm out terry cloth potholders that were just right in size and flexibility. I couldn’t find a replacement even though I looked high and low. I refurbished them by cutting up a pretty dish towel and using it to re-cover the potholders. Sewed right over them with an x in the middle and top stitching all around. They’ve lasted another 12 years!

I love this thread. Thrifting has changed over the years but I have found my best fabrics at Salvation Army and Church Sales. I buy the vintage sheet sets that provide yards of fabric in prints that aren't available at box stores.  Be careful, some of the old material was discontinued because of fire/safety issues. I have been sewing reusable grocery bags and donating them too local charities too use for donations.

I turn a pair of 3XL size Brussel washer linen shorts into a wrap skirt and keep three of the four original pockets. I can easily get over a 2 ft chicken wire fence in it, no tripping hazard or having buttons caught on the wire.

Any place that sells sewing machines often will also offer sewing classes.  Our local quilt shop is very active and offers tons of classes at all levels.  It's a great way for them to sell machines, material and notions!
