Read Acres Magazine?

I have subscriptions to both "Acres" and "Permaculture". I like "Permaculture" better of the two.

I subscribed to Acres for three years and finally quit when I noticed it was becoming a chore to sort through and find the good stuff. It's mostly geared toward medium-sized farms and livestock, and also they're total soil mineral geeks.

I agree - that seems to be a baseline for the "biodynamic" approach they favor. Sometimes interesting stuff but lots that I skip.

I enjoy reading it, but don't subscribe -- once in a while there's a copy on the free table in the front foyer of the library.

A free trial issue on a whim is part of what helped get me interested in agriculture. Now it gets sent here to Slovakia to me.

Since Charles Walters (the founder) died, I've noticed a definite loss of QC on some articles. Most are still good, but some are sub par and each issue now seems to have at least one where I wonder what third-grader wrote it. Still worth it to me though-- it summarizes news that I wouldn't find time to hunt down on my own and presents some interesting new ideas.

Acres USA is a Monthly sustainable agriculture magazine that has been publishing for over 40 years. Here is a sampling of some of the topics you will find in the Acres USA Magazine:
Cover cropping, Rotational grazing, Soil fertility management, Composting, Insect control methods, Alternative crop marketing, Government regulations that affect you, Organic certification and marketing, Crop-specific advice, Value-added processing and many other topics to titillate and inspire you in your farming endeavors.

One of the things I found interesting about this magazine was this quote found on there "About Page" it said the following: Acres U.S.A. shows its readers how to embrace the science of nature. Rather than batter nature into submission with bizarre chemistry that short-circuits natural processes.
This quote is a nice way of saying "Nature isn't your personal bitch".

My comment above about the sub-par articles is really no longer applicable. It was about a year "hiccup" in editorial standards, but they are now back on track.
