I can't seem to find a reasonable source for goumi berry seeds online. The permaculture nurseries I usually go to don't carry them and the vendors I do see are very expensive and don't seem too reliable. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also does anyone have experience growing them from seed or are they better propagated from cuttings?

The thing about the Goumi bush is that the berries were designed to pass through a gut system and sprout in a pile of poop.
I've talked to five nurserymen that have never heard of anyone starting them successfully from seed here in the US. (doesn't mean it hasn't happened, just that these folks don't know about it if it has)
Every nursery I've talked with sells propagated plants only, and they all have mother plants that the cuttings come from.
It will survive up to Zone 4 and perhaps even Zone 3 with some die back or complete die back to the roots.
Since your post got me interested in this berry bush I am now going to have to get a pair (this is a self pollinator but I like pairs of plants) once I decide where I would like them to grow.
I'll then have fruits to try to develop an easy method of germination (perhaps my hogs and donkey will like the berries so I can try that too).
Currently I would go for cuttings or already established potted plants for acquiring this gem of a bush.

I have goumi seeds, purchased off a popular internet auction site. Admittedly I have little idea of how to try and germinate them!
I've heard suggested 12-week cold stratification, notching the seed coat, sitting in sterile compost for up to 18 months (!), amongst others! I do intend to try a few ways, see if I can get anything to sprout- as I can't get hold of an actual plant here.
i have 2 seedling goumi from rollingrivernursery at lease that is what it was labeled as. yah i herd to there are hard to germanate. they took like four years to flower.so probaley 5 years from seed.
i just bought some more goumi plants this time variety sweet scarlet they came 1 foot tall and already had flowers on them. they grow really fast and get bushy so you would have plenty of cuttings by next spring
if your in the us there are a bunch of nurserys that sell sweet scarlet goumi
I'm curious if anybody has more recent experiences to update this thread. Burnt Ridge nursery sells stratified goumi seed, and since they are a reputable outlet from all I know, I figured it was worth a shot for cheap N-fixers. Has anybody had success growing these from seed? Any tips on making it successful?

I just received some from them a few days ago. Not planted yet but the seeds do appear to be wet stratified and innoculated. We'll see if they come up...
I just bought some off of Etsy but I am totally ignorant to planning anything. I had never heard of this berry before now but everyone was out of trees/bushes. Please if anyone could give me very specific instructions on how to plant the seeds it would be greatly appreciated!
