So as part of our assignment, to collect different kinds of seeds from different species of tree, we came across this tree. The pods are green when fresh and brownish black when dried. They are like tubes, about 30cm long. Within these pods are disk-like membranes that cover each seed.

can we get a close-up of the leaves, pods, and/or flowers? Also your approximate Zone/geographical area?  

Based on your initial description, maybe a Pink Trumpet Tree?

Growing on my small acre in SW USA; Fruit/Nut trees w/ annuals, Chickens, lamb, pigs; rabbits and in-laws onto property soon.

To make it easier to help identify can you give us a close (12inch/20cm) of each of the following:
Fruit/Pod
Seed
Flower
Leaves
Trunk

Given the fact that you said pod it makes me think it is in the legume/pea-pod family.
If you were to give me you climate+location info it would probably allow me zero in/exclude some of the species in the family that prefers tropical vs temperate, swampy vs arid, etc, etc conditions.

Iterations are fine, we don't have to be perfect

I don't know this tree, but it's beautiful.

The closest I've been able to find through Google image search is Golden shower Tree, Cassia Fistula(or any of a  variety in this Genus) - also known as Golden Chain or Golden Rain or Laburnum...maybe.
