This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in textiles.

In this project, you will felt or full a bag or pouch. This can be done by either wet felting or by fulling a knit pouch. When one felts a wool knit object, it is technically called "fulling," though it's easier to find patterns searching for "felted knit bag pattern."

Here's a tutorial on How To Make a Seemless Wet-Felt Purse.

This wet-felted bag uses a ball for it's form: How to Wet Felt a Shoulder Bag on a Ball

This wet-felted bag uses bubble wrap for a form: How to Make a Wet-Felted Spiral Bag

13 Patterns for Felted Knit Purses

You can also find your favorite knit pouch or purse pattern, and increase the needle size up by at least 2 needle sizes. Knit according to the pattern and then felt down.

When making a pouch like like this, it helps to felt it partway (usually about 10 minutes) in the washer on hot.  Make sure to weave a non felting yarn through the drawstring holes, so they don't felt shut! Then finish felting it in the sink. To make it felt more fully, use only hot water until the end. This melds the fibres better together. The hot water loosens the fibres so they tangle together better. Cold water constricts them. So if you use too much cold water, it will felt more quickly, but with more of the knitting stitches visible, and potentially some holes.

When drying it, to get the fluted hour-glass type shape, fill the bag with marbles, and mold the top to the shape you want.

Badge bit requirements:
- must have a handle or drawstring
- must be at least 5 inches tall
- must be felted or fulled

To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pics or video (less than two minutes):
-  two progress pictures of you pouch
-  the finished pouch

I knit and fulled my brother-in-law a pouch for Christmas. Then I spun brown yarn and felted it for the cord, and needle felted the jewel to look like the ones in Zelda.

I was busy and think I should have taken another progress picture or two, so I included another pouch I made that's too small. You can also see my listing for custom-order pouches here on permies.

Staff note :

It's hard to evaluate the following requirements:
- must have a handle or drawstring
- must be at least 5 inches tall

Could you please post a photo showing the drawstring and height?

Staff note :

Thanks, the pic in your hand does the trick.  Approved!!!

I've made quite a few knitted then felted bags over time, I'm hoping this will count as I don't have an in progress picture as such, just a before and after felting pic.

Beautiful bag! It looks like you need two progress pictures. The pre-felting counts as one, but we sadly need too (which is hard, because most of use don't go around taking progress pictures of our stuff-we're so busy making them! Even when I made mine, knowing there would be a badge bit, I still barely took enough pictures!)

Thankfully, the holiday season is coming, so maybe there's a family member who might "need" a new bag/pouch? (That is, if you haven't already gifted one to everyone you know. I've already exhausted all of my family members! That's what I do: learn a new skill and then make a bunch of that thing to foist off on all my family and friends!)
