This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in textiles.

In this project, you will knit or crochet a bag. It must be at least 12x12 inches on one side, or of equivalent size (288 square inches for the whole bag). The straps must be knit or crocheted, as well.

Here's a list of free knit bag patterns (note: not all of these meet requirements) All Free Knitting

Here's a list of free crochet bag patterns (note: not all of these meet requirements) All Free Crochet

Unless you are felting the bag, you will probably want to use a plant fibre yarn, such as hemp, cotton, linen, or nettle. These do not stretch out like wool does.

Badge bit requirements:
 - bag must measure at least 288 square inches (or 12x12 inches on one side)
 - must have knit or crochet handles

To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pics or video (less than two minutes):
-  your bag in progress
-  your bag finished next to a ruler

I’ve made a few grocery bags before, but used ‘plarn’ spun from recycled grocery bags. These BBs require natural fibers, so I knitted this one from stashed cotton, first using up the ugly colorful yarn and the. Some plain black. The body is lace knit with size 15 needles, while the bottom and handles are stockinet on size 10s.

I started this immediately after the kitchen towel I made for another BB, but I can only knit for an hour in the evenings or my neck gets janked up, so it took a while.

Mine is a stretchy knitted market bag. The pattern came from Sheep & Stitch.

I used Bobbiny 100% recycled cotton yarn to make a market bag. I started with a J hook but ended up using a K hook (6.5 mm).

The plans I used are at this link. https://www.yarnth3ory.com/post/diy-crochet-market-tote

I'm hoping to use this in the spring when the market opens up again!

Inge, that's happened to me many a time! There's a BB for knitting mittens...I've knit like 6 or 7 pairs of mittens, but I've never taken progress pictures! Well, my kids' hands keep growing, so maybe I'll manage it this year or next!

My bag is inspired by Joy's market bag. I did not follow a pattern but crocheted as I saw fit. I used 2 different sized hooks - an over sized K hook on the body of the bag and E hook for the top edge and handles.

I used 100 cotton “Peaches & Cream” yarn and a 4 mm crochet hook to complete this fun grocery bag!
