crazy false advertising somehow attached to the permies.com site

Dear permies.com site builders,

You might not be aware of it, but a screen pops up when a member of premies logs in, offering a free prize for taking a survey regarding the site. I'm sure there's some small print someplace, telling of the future charge that will be made on the credit card used to pay the shipping charge on the gift. I chose the flashlight, and then realized, when I gave the following confirmation a close read, that I might be expected to return the flashlight if I didn't care to buy it. After responding to that emai, asking for clarification, I was finally told that this was indeed the case. This just seems like a terrific scam, and so diametrically opposed to the straightforward, quality communication on premies.com. I hope you can detach the site from the pop-up.

I was logged in when I saw your post and logged out, then back in, and no popups...tried twice but maybe didn't stay logged out long enough?

What browser are you using?  

That is almost certainly adware on the OPs computer, not anything to do with the permies site.  I can log off and on and I don't get it.

Thank you for responding so quickly to my concern, and the pop-up ad must be associated with my system rather than the permie site. I've received a notification from the advertiser saying that the purchase has been refunded to my account. I appreciate your help.

I don’t get ads like that anywhere on the web. I use the DuckDuckGo browser both on my iPad and on my Android phone. It is hyper secure. I thought about running a test, but didn’t want to download an insecure browser. Personally, on my PC computer, I use Firefox. It is the most secure Windows based browser I have found for privacy and control of who gets your info. I also don’t get any pop-ups with that browser.
