The new software has automated titles.  At JavaRanch, we use:

greenhorn  (less than 30 posts)
ranch hand  (30 or more posts)
bartender  (forum admin)
sheriff        (site admin)

Do we want something different?

Is it possible to have nothing at all other than the tally of posts?
The whole ranking thing isn't my scene.

I have worked on sites where rankings had a negative effect.  Some newer members would post 100 meaningless posts in order to increase their ranking.

Rewarding post-count can seriously diminish the quality of posts.

I'm no great fan of ranking either.  I'd happily forgo *anything* under my name at all!

When I tested the new software and my family saw 'bartender' under my name they fell about laughing.  "Mum, you've never been in a bar in your life and you'd be under the table within minutes if you tried!"

Life just hasn't been the same since the volcano erupted and now the air is full of tiny ads.
