I have no idea what is involved in this (cookies?), but every other forum I've been on "remembers" where you are in each thread. Wondering if your going to look at it because it's odd that every time I click on a thread link I get sent back to the beginning.

On the other hand, kudos on naming the URL links. Very simple.

I know that I had to turn that on. I'm not sure if it is available to everybody.

It sounds like Cj means opening up a particular thread in the browser and it taking you to where you left off reading. For example, if it was post 4 on page 2 of a 3-page thread it would take you there. Is that what you mean?

I'm just clarifying because I have similar question. When I receive an e-mail that someone replied to a topic that I'm following, the link (here's an example: https://permies.com/forums/posts/list/40/3897#109527) takes me to that specific reply. Am I remembering incorrectly, or did the old software have a "#new" pointer of some kind so that it took you to your last unread post in the thread?

Going to the specific reply works for me (just thought it might be relevant to Cj), and it's working just fine in my browser, but for some reason it's not working in my handheld (a BlackBerry). I love the mobile version--it's easy to read and navigate--except for this one little glitch.

Yes, that is what I mean.

Does it work for your browser? I'm using Safari which isn't always fully supported. Would it work in FireFox?

I use Firefox as my browser. Here's how I got here:
--I received an e-mail that there was a reply (your reply, Cj) to this thread
--I clicked on the link in the e-mail and it took me to Cj's reply where you said "Yes, that's what I mean."

Entering this forum thread from any other way (for example, clicking the "tinkering with this site" link at the top of the page, then clicking this "remembering thread location" thread) brings me to the top, original of all of the thread posts. There was/is no routing to my last location in the thread.
