The most exciting permaculture news of MY day!

Read it in Crosscut, here:

Seattle is planning a seven-acre public food forest, on utilities land, in the heart of Beacon Hill, a multiethnic, multicultural residential neighborhood that includes African Americans, Latinos, and Asian Americans of all nationalities. All I can say is I'm so excited about this project that I could bust! I know this neighborhood well, having owned rental property there 25 or so years ago. We should all be keeping our eyes on this one. Certainly I consider myself invested in its success.

Wow, that's FANTASTIC. If only a few more folk were such inspired. Let's hope it's the beginning of something BIG.

Excellent! good news! I have family in Spokane I'll make sure they support!

I think this is excellent news.

As for gubmint stuff: I think that since most cities have lots of space where tax money makes the space some mowed grass that is hosed with chemicals, another other spaces that are for specific sports, and other spaces that are for fancy ornamental gardens, I am really glad to hear that there are going to be some spaces more aligned with what I think is cool.

When Sepp Holzer was in the US a while back, he visited an 80 acre property that was in vancouver, washington. There was talk of soccer fields and the like. I was thinking it would be really cool to have an urban permaculture farm - something that people could visit and learn from. Complete with farm animals.
