It's mainly the panaceic reaction. Someone hears that such-and-such is good against anything, and so it goes on anything, frequently, and at high doses.
When people do this with something like diatomaceous earth in their smoothies, turmeric in their food, or Sea90, say, the potential for it to go off the rails is limited, with perhaps some diarrhea or constipation, a little stomach upset. When it is done with something toxic in high doses, or that accumulates over time, however, this mentality and behaviour can be dangerous.
I recently listened to a story on the radio about an old Cuban woman's love affair with Vicks Vapo-Rub, or as she calls it, "Vickicito." It was used on everything, for every reason, even those that the manufacturer specifically warned against. In her case, there was no fallout except perhaps persistent criticism that the post-shower bathroom smelled overmuch of her vickicito after she used it as a whole-body liniament, and maybe a little indigestion when accidentally swallowed after use as a treatment for gingivitis (which didn't work, by the way). But in this era of bio-hacking, body-hacking, and downright anti-rational thought, people come up with some pretty incredible ideas.
For any out there using colloidal silver, please just be careful when using this internally or externally in any quantity.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
