Paul and I are working on the Animal Care badge for the PEP system.  We're detailing out some options for people to use when attempting to mitigate/eliminate beetles.  Here's our list, can you add some more ideas???

Improve diversity of plants
- Some plant species improve the strength and health of target plant
- Some plant species discourage beetles
- Some plant species draw beetles away from other species (sacrifice)
Build beetle predator habitat
Add mulch to target plant
Document plant of the same species in another spots being not bothered by pests
Bring fowl in to eat the beetles
Trap crop (grapes?) to attract beetles then shake trellis to feed chickens below

Grow hybrid potato varieties with genetics from S. berthaultii, like King Harry, which have several forms of foliar resistance.  Potentially try growing some North American wild potatoes like S. jamesii or S. stoloniferum, although these are very small and quite a different experience from growing domesticated potatoes.  Possibly grow a perimeter of unappealing wild potatoes around or among your domesticated potatoes.  All bearing in mind that wild potatoes can easily become invasive, so experimentation should be careful.

I'm not sure if this would go in metalworking, or somewhere else. But this person appears to have made a push-powered mechanism that brushes the beetles straight into a container. Pretty spiffy! Just look at all the beetles in his bucket!

We noticed he had no friends. So we gave him this tiny ad:
A rocket mass heater heats your home with one tenth the wood of a conventional wood stove
