The factory scale is a great idea. I purchased a full blown side bar medical scale for similar reasons. It was worth the cost. Do keep in mind that those factory scales are, most likely, calibrated and recertified on an annual basis. So, if you do decide to pay out the bucks, make sure the scale can be recalibrated and make sure you have something ( s) of a known weight to calibrate by.
To more directly answer your question, we have a slide bar chemistry scale that we bought cheap in junk store. It would probably cost around $300 new. We also have an electronic scale EK 5055. I have no idea what brand.
Some people age like fine wine. I aged like milk … sour and chunky.
