You got the right section, so you are perfectly good there.
But I can totally see your blackberries as being a victim of some heat stress. 85-90 degrees is pretty warm when the plant does not have access to the ground moisture. If this plant were actually in the ground, it would be different, but in a pot without contact with the ground, it’s a bit much for the poor plant.
But fear not, blackberries are pretty resilient plants. Give them just a bit of TLC and they should be fine. On watering, when the commercial potting soil mix you have dries out, it is difficult to get it to soak up water again. It needs a really heavy soaking to unlock the soil mixes ability to soak up and really retain water again. Soak it thoroughly and it will really drink up and retain moisture once again.
