That's correct that they are shallow rooted, so you should have no issues. Of course, there are always potential issues. If you have any future leach field problems where water pools up then gross, you're done for the season. I personally would only stick with non-edibles on a leech field. And I would extra avoid a long term planting like strawberries because that's more time for things to go wrong. But hey, if you know you have a newer septic system and leech field that always stays dry.... maybe you wouldn't regret it.
