Just found out that the great state of Montana taxes all livestock, even bees!!!
Everything from cattle, sheep, pigs to chickens and bee hives.
Not that much, ($0.05 per chicken, $0.41 per bee hive),  but still...... next gardens???

Here is a link to the website with the fees:

Seems like that would be terribly hard to enforce unless you were a commercial operation.

I can see a chicken factory polluting the shared ground water/environment. And them paying a chicken fee to have someone help undo their damage.

Hi Dennis;
I've lived here in Montana over 40 years. I've had pigs each summer for over 20 years. I've had a few cows over the years .This is the first I've heard of this.
I went to the website.
It appears this is voluntary reporting.  I suspect they really only enforce this at big ranches, that are taking livestock/ranch  tax credits.

Seems, purely by accident I have been legal all these years... Whew no need to turn myself in   : )
Only pigs older than 3 months in February need be reported , so my 6 week old wieners in April that get slaughtered in October don't get counted... Like I was EVER  going to report myself...

Can you hear that? That's my theme music. I don't know where it comes from. Check under this tiny ad:
