Hello!

As you can probably tell, I am quite new here, but I have been researching and dreaming about permaculture, and especially agroforestry principals, for quite some time. It is my dream to help transform tropical agricultural systems using more holisitic, and native-plant focused techniques. Now that I am searching for a university to go to next year, I am really trying to find an accredited program to teach me such things (unfortunately it needs to be accredited, because from what I understand, it can be hard to get visas or positions without an "official" degree). I know this is a hard question, as I have searched quite a bit for good programs like this, preferably in places that are actually tropical or thereabouts. So: Do any of you have any pointers on where I might search for a program like this? Any help from you much more experienced folks is much appreciated. Thank you!

One of my permaculture mentors took a forestry program at University of Florida. He now runs Great Southern Forestry.

Google search for "tropical agroforestry academic program" yielded the following:

https://books.google.co.jp/books?id=XM8sAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA37&lpg=PA37&dq=tropical+agroforestry+academic+program&source=bl&ots=p0lT3MWlAY&sig=ACfU3U2di8vHgVQtVdZ0KKaLYQpKeKiUzw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwix8JCMtsvqAhUaMd4KHfcFDTUQ6AEwBnoECAYQAQ#v=onepage&q&f=false
An older directory of tropical agroforestry programs from the 90s. Some programs will probably be discontinued, some will be a lot more developed nowadays than the description in this directory.

A collection of agroforestry projects.

While there aren't many explicitly permaculture or agroforestry degrees, there are plenty of projects going on.
There is overlap with many disciplines: agriculture, ecology, biology etc.
If you focus your search more on what kind of research or projects you would like to be involved with, then look up the university affiliations of the research team, you can find a program that teaches agroforestry. Even though the degree might end up being in biodiversity or something. Does that make sense?

I believe that the university of Missouri has a permaculture degree. Agro forestry/silvopasture is probably more.common
