lots of dead trout along the riverbanks in spring and lots of dead salmon along the riverbanks in fall around here
i have not gathered any up yet.. i could just imagine the smell!
i would like to give this a try though as i do buy fish emulsion
I made mine very similar to yours but I can't figure out where I got the recipe. The only difference I remember is that it was fermented with lacto-baccilius pills I got from the health food store. The only smell was sweetish with a hint of vinegar, like a cheap wine mixed 50/50 with water? I suck at describing things.
Anyway, the stuff worked amazingly! I need to make more. Here fishy-fishy...

thanks for the reply.
Do you think i can use the dark brown top layer?
Well... Mine didn't have one. The only thing it left besides the clear/pinkish/brownish liquid was a tiny pile of cartilage at the bottom, like a 1/4 cup or less.
I dont think its needed. but i figured it wouldn't hurt. my understanding is LABs can be used in most applications in natural farming so i use just about everywhere, everytime. Im very much a newb and excited about spring so i can make my 1st IMO and actual FAA.
I've been using the above for a few months on indoor plants to make sure it ok and seems to work beatifully.

It is not good to pick up the dead salmon and trout as they have died after spawning and the young fry need the nutrients provided by the dead bodies decomposing in the water. The UK Environment Agency told me this when I was talking to them about the dead salmon in our river.
I'm a market gardener in Wales, UK and live in the Radnor Hills. I live and work on land that is part of a rewilding farm owned by a Wildlife Trust. Loving my new polytunnel!
I have started a bucket of FAA, I did add leaf mold as innoculant instead of just sugar and fish. 10 days in and it is doing great, no fish smell. Started looking into it because emulsion and hydrolosates attracted the feral cat population to my garden and they make a mess.
