Hi, need to order layers. Live in NW, Arkansas. My girls are 4 now and not laying enough. Want females and do no want straight run. Thinking of Easter Eggers to join the existing Buff Orpingtons. Any recommendations on Easter Eggers yay or any and hatcheries you recommend or recommend avoiding appreciated. Thank you.

I've had good luck with Cackle Hatchery for laying hens.  But lately we've been getting them from the local feed stores.  We don't need so many at once anymore, so mail order isn't really feasible.  Like, this year, I think we're planning on getting 6-10 layers.  Most mail order is prohibitively expensive or simply not accepting for orders under 15 chicks.

For broilers, I've been ordering from Freedom Ranger Hatchery.  I got my BBW poults from Hoover.  The Blue Slate poults I'm not positive, but I think we ordered them from Cackle.  We're going to experiment with a smaller number CRX this year, and I'll order those from Jenks as they're a pretty good deal for me being on the west coast I’ll get them from Coastal Farm and Ranch locally as they’re available and a good price.

I order from Meyer because they are local. Only had good experiences.

I'd offer to sell and ship to you some of my hatching eggs but those hatch out straight run of course.

We've had really good luck with Cackles Hatchery in Missouri, but with what the postal service is doing, I'd be a little leery this year.

We have always bought our chicks from our local feed store.

Permies has a Critter Review Grid that you might like to check out and even do a review when you make your purchase:

Did you get your chicks ordered?
I have always had good luck buying from a local family owned co -op. But in 2020 I needed chicks, and never went to get them.  I ordered chicks from Hoover's Hatchery.  I had to wait a long time, but I'm pretty sure it was because of the pandemic.  They sent them on time.  All the chicks were very healthy.  That was in September 2020.  They are the best chickens I have ever had. The only negative was I ordered 5 colored egg layers. They don't tell you what kind of chickens they sent.  I emailed to ask and was told figuring out was part of the fun.  I still don't know what they are. I had to order 15 chicks, but I guess that's for there safety.  I would order from them again.  Good luck to you.
