Hi everyone,

I recently bought a house and found these bricks in the backyard. After a quick google search, I assumed (but not certain) the white bricks were fire rated and started to plan to build something from them. Does anyone have any information they can send my way about these bricks? Would it be okay to use these in a brick oven build?

Details:

Size: 8.75 x 4.25 x 2.5 inches
Weight: 7 lb 8 ounces
Color: White
Mark: FJD
Location: Pennsylvania

Pictures are attached.

Hi Matt;
The white bricks are defiantly fire bricks.
The darker outer brick are old clay.
That appears to be someone's old forge or just a heavy duty wood burner .
Save all those bricks!

Hi Matt and welcome to Permies!
Thomas is right, save those bricks. Where I live they’ve become difficult to source. When I’ve ordered some from a big box store the prices were higher than I expected.

I acquired an identical blend of bricks when a 60-ish year old chimney was removed from an old bakery where I am. I didn't see it in situ, but I assume the bricks were arranged much the same way as in the above photos. Congratulations Matt!

Thank you, everyone!

Will definitely be saving them. Looks like project brick oven is a go.

She said size doesn't matter, so I showed her this tiny ad:
