Do you have
land that you have stewarded for years?
Do you dream of living out your life on that land, but need help with maintenance?
Are you interested in passing on all of your knowledge, knowing that someone will carry on your vision into the future?
If the right people came along that were passionate about farming,
permaculture, and community, would you consider partnering with them?
I feel that a rent-to-own contract with a guarantee that the landowner can live out their lives on the property could fill a need for many people. Young people need access to land and many do not have the option of conventional lending due to the competitive housing market and low farm wages. Many aging farmers and homesteaders need help maintaining their land and caring for their animals. These same folks desire to stay living on their land as long as possible, enjoying their home and all they have built. Funds from a down payment and monthly rental would help the retired farmer financially and an equitable agreement could be arranged that benefits both parties. Trailer or tiny house living could provide housing for the young farmers for the duration of the contract.
What do you think?
Are you a young farmer that would be interested in an arrangement like this, if there was a great mentor and piece of land available? Are you planning your
retirement and thinking about how you can build community and enjoy your land with others? Please comment below. I would be thrilled if people could connect and start a conversation on this topic.
