The left handlebar broke/bent out of shape. Maybe a weld failed?
I found a replacement part... They want $95 for it. That is money that I wanted to use for a broadfork like thingy. Sigh.
The tiny black line near the arrow shows where the handle broke. The poorly drawn handlebar is the approximate shape it bent to. A picture is not available, because The Kid bent it back near to where it belongs... I worry that too much bending, will break it off. Maybe making a hoped-for new weld impossible. Source of handlebar pic.
'Cause I know nothing about what can or can't be welded. Fortunately, the 20something neighbor kid does... I just didn't want to bother him unless ya'll think it could work. I'm not sure he owns the equipment though.
I'm afraid that without looking at the part in person, it's not really possible to give a definitive answer. The factory part was certainly welded. But it may take a combination of welding and attaching a support bracket (also by welding, or bolts) depending on the location of the break and any additional damage done to the tubing.
As Douglas said, it would have to be seen, but I suspect it can be welded if braced. In any case, the price should be much less than replacement.
Looking at the photo again, I would think an internal and external support welded at the break as well as an external support welded higher up connecting both handle bars would work.
….give me coffee to do the things I can and bourbon to accept the things I can’t.
I too agree that before shelling out any money, check with a local welder or any other handyman service provider. Little repair can be done without any help but here I guess you must ask some local service provider.
