Can anyone recommend a book that covers the issues of integrating food plants into an existing semi-natural forest? We've got a large area of Doug Fir and declining Cedars, but also some edge areas with a mix of some variety of Service berry, Ocean Spray, Gary Oak and a sprinkle of Doug Firs.
I suppose I
should mention that there are a *lot* of rocks also. I've tried planting into existing areas but have had pretty much a zero survival rate with mostly the STUN method. (Granted this year's drought was exceptionally bad and plants that were just hanging on appear to have succumbed. )
This year I've had Hubby pull out a bunch of the Ocean Spray and dug a couple of
compost pits and my plan is to transplant
trees where they can access the moisture plume of one the pits.
