Hello fellow Permies!
The inspiration for this thread started here.

https://permies.com/t/175101/kitchen/advise-daughter-diet

After reading I discovered that my own food preferences were similar to that of the eleven year old’s. This thread will be where I post a healthier versions that I still love. Feel free add your favorites as well!

Banana breakfast bowl: 5 servings

15 oz (2 cups) plant based milk
15 dates, pitted
2.5 TBS peanut or almond butter
2.5 TBS cocoa powder
10 bananas sliced

In a blender combine plant milk, dates, nut butter, and cocoa powder. Blend until smooth.
Pour mixture over sliced bananas and enjoy!

Scott, that would also make a great smoothy if running short of time for eating.  Just blend all the ingredients and drink.

I actually prefer just drinking the blended ingredients without the bananas. It’s not nearly as filling but the sweetness of the dates really makes it feel like dessert.

Quinoa and blueberry hot cereal.
This is one for those who have a hard time digesting oats.

I will add my favorite cold weather breakfast:

sorgum
apples

boil the sorgum in water til it's soft-ish. Usually this takes about 20 minutes and the water will change color (if it`s red sorgum, not so much if it`s white). If you remember to soak it first, it will be done quicker. Drain.

Core apples and cut into chunks, then put them and the sorgum into the slow cooker overnight on low. You will wake up in apple-pie-fragrance heaven. It makes an excellent hot cereal that needs nothing else, although you could certainly add cinnamon, honey, ground flax, etc.

(Usually I make a batch with a cup of sorgum and maybe 3 or 4 manky apples that need to get used up, and it lasts me a week of weekday breakfasts)

I had never heard of black rice prior to last week but I highly recommend it.
Yesterday I made an arugula salad and added the cold rice in. It was wonderful and no dressing needed!
