I think the tree is an almond-nectarine cross. I planted an almond seed but the tree that came up had peach leaves. They're both blooming.

The almond blossom (from the parent tree) is on the right. It has 6 petals and is pure white. It has no scent. The almond-nectarine has a faint scent, five petals and a much more well developed center. The petals are small, distinctly pointed, and blushed pink on the edges.

I am moving so I will probably never see how it turns out. This is the first year it has bloomed, so I doubt there will be any mature fruit. I'm hoping for an edible fruit and edible nut; although that's unlikely it would be amazing.

I have an almond-peach cross. It makes nice big almonds, no flesh. It also gets peach leaf curl.

But also, fruit trees never come true from seed. So you could also have a pure almond that is expressing genes from its grandparents that were not expressed in the parent.

Conversation with natives in Glen county California indicated that the lowest common denomatter for almond crosses was hard shell and fleshless fruit.  Possibly someday the reverse will happen.
