Anybody have experience with peach-almond crosses? I planted seeds from my almond a year ago, and one of the surviving seedlings looks like a peach. I'm going to let it go and see what it can do. Maybe I'll get inedible fruit with an edible pit, or edible fruit with an edible pit, or inedible fruit with an inedible pit. I think it crossed with the nectarine about 20 feet away.

It would be amusing to get a full blown peach with an edible almond pit, as unlikely as that might be.

There are several well known peaches that are peach x almond hybrids currently on the market, mostly these are used as root stocks.
The fruits are sometimes interesting flavors.

The wording is interesting. It seems they're concerned with inbreeding and the inability of monocultures to adapt to changes in environment. Almost looks like they're trying to create an almond landrace! :)

I grow 'Hall's Hardy' Almond, which is thought to be an almond peach hybrid.  It makes hard shell delicious strong flavored almonds.  I planted a 'Reliable' almond next to it, which is an almond peach hybrid as well.  My plan is to do some hand crossing and row out seedlings from the two to see if any of them end up with decent peach flesh and decent almonds.  Just seems like a fun project, but I'm waiting on the Reliable to size up and start flowering.

I wish I knew more about the parentage of these two trees.  I know nothing!
