It seems like not owning/inheriting land is the bane of my simplistic existence.

I started learning Japanese woodworking with only hand tools about when wood prices skyrocketed... Now it's easier to find a cabinet being thrown out on the side of the road and scrap it for its hardwood than it is to afford wood, make a cabinet, and sell it! I have been considering buying a bundle of adze, axes, drawknives and such just to have in case I ever choose to go live in the forest and and accidentally eat poisonous berries, I mean to find my own wood. But it seems kind of foolish because I am not a million dollar corporation that can destroy local forests overnight. Heck, I can't even pay to chop down ONE tree to make a number of things out of, then plant one in its place!

Any suggestion for finding green woods, whole logs? I can't stand driving, driving hours for wood is unfortunately not in my playbook. Too bad there's no wood around here anymore, everything is covered in this stuff called concrete.
