Persimmon Tree Question

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I have a persimmon tree that did not produce any fruit last year but it looks like it might this time around.  However, I've noticed that A LOT of them are falling off the tree as soon as they get to the size of a pea.  Is this normal?  Is there something that I should be doing to prevent this from happening?  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

as far as i’ve seen, it’s pretty common for persimmons to abort fruit not long after fruit set, especially when they’re fairly young and not into regular production yet. it’s like they’ve worked out flowering but only realize how much energy ripening everything they set is going to take once it’s already set. to my knowledge there’s no magic fix, you just need to wait until they sort themselves out.

Your post doesn't mention where you are located. So I can only offer my own experience. 2 Months ago I bought 9 more fruit trees. They were already blooming. I planted them the next day. 3 weeks later I saw lots of teeny tiny pears and apples and peaches. Then we got a hard frost in mid April which hasn't happened here in about 10 years.  Went down to 29* that night and all the cute little fruits started falling off a few days later. Some trees have just one or two fruits on them now. Like they say..... Shit Happens. I wasn't expecting much fruit this first year anyway.

So how old is your tree? Did it get cold there? Are they getting enough water or do you notice the very tips of the branches wilting a bit? Can you give us a bit more info please?

I'm in Southern California and the weather has been pretty constant.  I think the tree must be 10+ years old, but I couldn't say for sure because I did not plant it.  I have been watering fairly generously the past couple of months.  Could too much water also do that?

It did produce a ton of fruit for a few years, but nothing last year.
