I went away to visit family & returned to garlic scapes not being removed cuz they were waiting for them to curl -- it's like mid-August & they were planted around October/November last year. I'm going to cut them to aid what remains of their growth & as they're still green & growing. Is this climatic weirdness or some other phenomena? We did have a wet cold spring. That's probably it right there. I dunno. Does anyone here know if trouble shooting is necessary, even?
I'm wrapping up my second year of garlic, so I'm no expert, but what I've seen is that they curl and then uncurl. So my first guess is they curled while unwatched...is that possible?
Thanks Folks, cuz yeah, the scapes my have curled unnoticed while I was away & uncurled for my return. I dunno. Will take them off tmrw & hope the season is long enough to bring them along further. Last year the garlic was larger at harvest than now at this time. Good Luck to US All, Nick
Hi, thanks. I think mine are mostly Russian Red, given the colour & prevalence of preference around here. But I've always had them curl in the past. It's just this time I was away thru a crucial month.
