Hi Jenkin;
Rock wool is a brand name it is made with basalt rock.
Mineral wool is similar but can be made in several different ways.
Either would work as insulation around your oven but would not work in a riser.
Both require safety equipment to use.
Ceramic wool is high temp insulation.
It will work in a 5-minute riser but is very hazardous without safety precautions.
Tyvek suit, respirator, gloves, and goggles are all strongly suggested.
Morgan Super Wool is a high temp non-ceramic fiber blanket.
It is non-bio soluble in its unheated form. Totally safe to work with. This cannot go in your lungs and stick there as a ceramic blanket does.
Short sleeves, no gloves it is a pleasure to work with.
Insulating your oven would be fast, safe and easy with it.
When Morgan is used in creating a five-minute riser, it is totally safe while constructing.
After burning, you would want to treat it as hazardous and use a respirator.
The bottom line is the newest product suggested to use is Morgan super wool.
It is more costly than the others but ease and safety make it the product of choice.
