From Michael Pilarski:

The 2008 WSPC was very successful with 125 people attending. We hope to be even bigger and better in 2009.

The Convergence features presentations by many of Washington’s most experienced permaculturists. This is a great opportunity to meet permaculturists from around Washington State and beyond. We get together to share knowledge, insights, and ideas. Would you like to give a presentation, lead a discussion, do a demo, entertain us or be part of the organizing team? Contact Michael Pilarski

Last year's convergence was excellent!  I'm guessing there was over a hundred people there.    Skeeter, Kelda, Marisha, Dave Boehnlein, the owner of raintree nursery ... toby hemenway gave the keynote ...

So much excellent information.  This was where I first heard about EM.  I also learned about an excellent plant database that was forming.  I learned about lots and lots and lots of stuff.

So many great people gathered for a few days.

When going from seattle, I wonder which is faster/cheaper:  the ferry, or going through tacoma?

according to google maps, there is a 9 minute difference between taking the ferry and going though tacoma.  But I suspect that that does not take into account hanging out and waiting for the ferry stuff.

Jocelyn and I are now registered!

We'll be taking Jocelyn's mini van which can take seven.  She'll be coming from woodinville and picking me up in west seattle.

Having been to and from this property many times I have to say that if you can get the Ferry it's about the same price in gas and regardless of what google says it's about 30-40 faster on average.  It also saving some mental energy not having to physically drive all that distance.  If you miss the ferry though, the wait will eat up all your saved time.  That's my experience.

Note from Registrar:

The convergence is about 2/3 full, private rooms are all taken and many people have begun to inquire about carpooling. I'm directing people here and will also connect people via a list of attendees (if attendees are ok with this).

Hope to see everyone there and thanks all for registering in advance!

Best,
Christy Nieto

Jocelyn, is your van full yet?  Can you get that "bag" thing that goes on the roof?  I think we're going over on thursday afternoon/eve and coming back on sunday eve?

We have three in the van so far (you, me and Pennie), with two who are "maybe's" - haven't received a confirmation from them yet.

I think Pennie is willing to go Thursday night and I know I am. Returning Sunday is good, too.

The "pouch" for the roof would definitely be needed for more than 3! Not sure if I'll be able to borrow it. Five of us for a one-night trip maxed out the cargo space, and this is three nights! Minivans have lots of people space, very little "trunk" space. I'll see what I can do...

Hi, all - just want to let you folks with kids know that you are welcome to bring your young ones to the Convergence, and we even have 3 workshops specifically for (or by!) our youth.  Anyone who wants to offer another kid-friendly workshop is heartily encouraged to as well.  Sahale is a wonderfully safe place for kids, and there is a treehouse, a playhouse in the forest, several streams, a small pond with canoe and great gardens to play in.  And kids are free!  How cool is that?

Hi Everyone,

A tentative attendee is hoping he'll find a ride for himself, wife and two toddlers from Olympia or Seattle (they can get to Seattle if no ride from Olympia).

Is anyone traveling by van (with room) to Sahale?

Paul/Jocelyn, I hope you see this if you end up with room in your van.

Christy

Hey, Christy - Pat Rasmussen from Terra Commons in Olympia mentioned there will be at least 2 cars coming from Oly.  Perhaps they can check with her?

I'm looking for a ride from Ballard to the convergence and back on Sunday.

Lacking the time off right now to just ride the 42 miles by bicycle I'd love to find a corner in some pick up, van, trunk, etc.
Just me, and a small back pack. I will pay for the fuel cost.

please call or email:
balaenoptera@gmail.com or 206-240-6089

alternatively I'm willing to rent a car and split the cost with two or three other peeps needing a ride.

giddyup.

I am one of those looking for a ride from Seattle for just myself and my accumulation of stuff I bring.  I am live in the Madison Valley, but could arrange to locate myself in other areas to be picked up and dropped off.
Ideally I would like to leave friday, return sunday but I am willing to be flexible if other options are the only ones which present themselves.

I can help out with gas/ferry money.

get in touch with me via email at
aaron.swartzman@gmail.com
or phone

excited to converge

The two "maybe's" confirmed, and my son agreed to go (yea!)--this makes six, so my van is very full!

Now to find a pouch for the top...

Hi, you all - we have a black fabric cartop carrier to loan out that we won't be using; you can pick it up in Tukwila if you like.  Call me at 206 and 369 and 7590 for details to our place; you can even see our nifty permaculture front yard!  In a rental, even!
See everyone who's anyone at the Convergence!

Thanks for the offer of the pouch, Laura! Maybe someone else can use it. I just bought one for my van last night. Seems I keep finding times that I could use one.

Hey
I decided to come yesterday (I was facilitating a PDc through last weekend and wasn't sure I'd have the umph to get there) and the noticed today that it  says"registration is full" -- does that mean not to come at this point?

I live with David Macleod who is presenting and I'd love to keep him company on his drive down so I hope there's room for one more skinny permie who can bring a dry erase board if still needed, lots of food, and who is willing to help out  as needed.

I thought I had posted this earlier, but now I don't see it.

I got confirmation from christy:  the convergence is FULL!

Maybe there's a waiting list?  I know that Jocelyn's son has to bail.

I'm now back!

I was supposed to present on rocket mass heaters but erica and ernie showed up, so I passed the torch.

I was supposed to present on chickens and did that.  No rotten produce was thrown.

There was a request for something interesting on friday night, so I did a little something on oehler structures.
