So, REKO rings...

It seems like they take many of the good attributes of going to a farmer's market and toss in some from hosting a CSA. Not all the good stuff from either one, but it seems compelling.

It seems tightly bonded with Facebook, but there's no reason why it couldn't be done otherwise.

This article does a good job of expanding on the basics captured in that image.

This podcast interviews member-producers of three Midwestern REKO rings, including the one nearest me.

If you prefer video, here are a couple I thought worth sharing:

There's no mention of this marketing approach here at Permies so I thought I'd start one. I wonder if anyone participates, as a consumer or a producer, and what your thoughts are.

I wonder if there is a way we could facilitate something similar in the regional forums.

I have to imagine that a huge advantage of doing on Facebook is the number of users already there. But there's also the significant group of people who won't use that platform, so I think if I were establishing a REKO ring, I'd look to have a FB group as described above, but maybe also have a more neutral (less contentious) mirror site. On the podcast I linked to, toward the end I think, a woman mentioned another website that I take to be an ecommerce portal that the FB-averse consumers can use instead, but I didn't investigate it. I could imagine using Permies as that neutral mirror-site if nothing else.

This sounds like a great idea.

I wonder if it could be done similarly to a "Block Party" or a "meet-up"?  Or even at a city park.

Organize a group of farmers, find a location, then get the word out to customers.

thanks for sharing the idea.

I also like Beau's suggestion to put a post in the regional forum when this gets organized.

Where I live there is a weekly farmers market held during the summer at the city park.  I have not been to one though I would image people selling out of the back of cars and pickup would be what I would find.
