Different settings on ad blockers can cause some websites to break. Some are built with the requirement to have certain cookies and plugins operating.

But some sites detect the ad blocker and hassle you about it with a big pop-up, because it interferes with their revenue stream. To which I reply: if your silly ads didn't suck up my bandwith, slow my computer to a crawl, track my personal stuff, inject creepy code, and generally piss me off, I would let them sit quietly in the margins.

When I tried looking some screens are just blank.

On the message board, someone posted the same question and then came back and said he found it.  That is Ad blocker problem.

One of the moderators said it is not Ad Blocker but a technical issue with the website.

I guess only time will tell.

Can you share the site URL, if it's not too personal? We could have a look.

I don't have a problem sharing the site except for the part that is not working is a member area of ancestry DNA so you would not be able to access it.

Have you taken a DNA though ancestry? If so you can see what I am talking about.

The ancestry portion is working fine.

You can usually turn off your ad blocker temporarily or for a particular website. Ad blockers can mess up e-commerce sites because they block essential features.

For the sites that put up an annoying pop-up, you can take that off without disabling the ad blocker. It's a bit advanced through. If you're running Chrome, click the three dots in the upper right to bring up a drop-down menu. Go down to more tools and select "developer tools." That will bring up a side panel with the code for the webpage. You can find and delete the code for the pop-up that's blocking the page. If you're in a different browser, there's probably a way to do this; you'd just have to look it up.

Pro tip: Web/program developers don't actually know how all of these things work. They're just good at looking up solutions.

Elizabeth, thank you for the reply.

I found AdBlocker in the upper right hand corner.

It says AdBlocker Ultimate

When I go to it, I see:

Enable this site
block element
Setting

If I pick Settings it has the following:

General, filters, custom rules, white list, about

I understand I need to be at the website that I want to turn adBlocker off.

I just don't know where to go or what to do when I get there.

I had forgotten about the problem and remembered yesterday and the problem is still there.

When you are at the website you want to turn adblocker off at, click the ”Enable this site” from the adblocker menu. That should do it.

Thank you, that worked.

Thanks again to everyone.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. It was a tiny ad.
