Lodge? Yes, it is good. I have one that is permanently sitting on my stove top.

Yes that is most likely its real name, haha. Thank you for your feed back.

I should also add that you should preseason the skillet and use a little more oil than usual for the first couple times of cooking even though the skillet says it is preseasoned.

Walmart sells the Lodge brand, retail for a 10' skillet is about $12.95.
Lodge is the last foundry producing cast iron cookware in the US. Tour the plant on Youtube.
I have 2 10" skillets, a comal, a 12' skillet, a 14' skillet, and a large dutch oven with legs and lid, all Lodge. I have given 10' Lodge skillets to my sister and a nephew. They make a great Christmas gift.

At 13 bucks, this baby will outlast every other skillet walmart offers. I've had mine for several years. Before this I'd buy a teflon frying pan every few years, used them until the teflon started to scratch, paying more, and throwing them away. I've got a couple of stainless steel fry pans-they conduct the heat so fast I scorch stuff regularly-these get relegated to the bottom of the cabinet, way in the back. Cast iron is stored on top of the stove.

If you are new to cast iron cooking, these will work just fine for you. The more you use them, the better they get. They need to be seasoned to become non stick. A season is put on the pan at the foundry. You can build from there or burn it off and start over. Jocelyn Campbell shows how to restart a skillet. In the video, the brand shown is a Wagner. Regardless of the brand, there is no difference in the method.

Low price
Availability
Quality and durability
A lifetime of service
It will be the last skillet you ever buy.

Washing it first is a decision that you will have to make. I did it and then seasoned the pan immediately because the thought of all of the dirt those pans collect in the store and other people touching the pans creeps me out. A regular use of detergent is a no no.

Lodge also "makes" skillets in China. Not sure which ones WM sells; find a "made in" brand on the product. It takes a while to get the preseasoning out, but their skillets are fine afterwards.
