I am keeping an eye out for them to come to my garden. Milkweeds are not flowering yet but they are planted next to many other wildflowers to draw in and feed the monarch butterflies. Maybe that will make it easier for them to find the milkweeds to lay eggs on.

The first milkweed to bloom in my area is green-flowered spider milkweed, around the 2nd week of May.  I guess the similar antelop-horns milkweeds have bloomed in Texas already?

Zone 6, 45 inches precipitation, hard clay soil

The antelope-horns milkweed looked like the blossoms had not opened yet when we were out on the Ranch Road last Wednesday.  The blossoms probably have opened by now.

My antelope-horn milkweeds on my property are off in the woods where I never see them though I see Monarch headed for them, just not yet this year.

Usually, once a year I make it a point to go find them so I will not forget their location.

I found a few caterpillars in May from the generation heading north, now the last generation going back south are about to come out. Bon voyage little ones!

Nice pictures Anne!

Given that you are seeing yours, I hope that I start seeing mine soon.  I have about 5ish acres of old pasture that I let grow wild over summer.  I get lots of milkweed and Monarch butterflies love to stop by for the snack.  By covenants I have to mow once per year so I always do that after October after the monarch’s have passed.
